Dog Lover Birthday Cookies

A few weeks ago I saw a fellow cookie decorator post pictures of teddy bear cookies she was decorating.  I saw the “naked” cookie and didn’t see a teddy bear – I saw a dog with big (HUGE) ears in her cookie.  That got me thinking about a couple that I know who are huge dog lovers who also have birthdays coming up.  I decided I would make them birthday cookies based on these little doggies I pictured in my head.

I had a problem though.  I didn’t have that teddy bear cookie cutter!  I decided to use this baby cookie cutter from Karen’s Cookies and cut off part of the head (that just sounds terrible!).

I am not an artist so I usually look around for inspiration.  I found no dogs that fit my design so I had to freehand it.

The first dog I completed was a shaggy dog.  I used white piping icing with the grass Wilton tip shown in the picture below.

I saw Cookies with Character  post these dinosaur cookies on Facebook.  I fell in love with those cookies! I knew I had to use those bones in dog lover cookies!!  Thank you Christa for sharing your idea!!
